New Shoes
I track my workouts and daily mileage on an Excel spreadsheet that I have adapted for use over the past 8 years. I suddenly realized last week that I my running shoes had 692 miles on them. Thanks to some fabulous insoles from New Balance, the usable life of my shoes were extended well beyond the normal 400-450 miles. But the situation had become desperate.
Saturday, I ventured to my local sporting goods store to try on various Asics running shoes. In the past, I have gone to the specialty running stores to have my feet specifically fitted with the perfect running shoes only to be wildly disappointed each time. I know that prevailing wisdom states to buy shoes 1/2 size larger. I don't like it. I have been fitted with various shoes - Addidas, Mizuno, etc. - and I have not liked them. Yes, I am resistant to change.
The last three or four pairs of shoes I have purchased have been Asics GT 2130. I have had good success with them. But I thought I might need a change. So, I grab roughly 6 boxes of shoes - and end up with the Asics Gel 3000. I should have done my homework. These are stability shoes. I have high arches and need some heel support for plantar fasciitis, but I do not need motion control or stability shoes.
I hate these shoes. I have run on them since Sunday and they are heavy. They make me feel like I am slogging through miles. They are not comfortable (for me). I cannot imagine trying to run 10 miles in these shoes.
I must find my way back to the sporting goods store and find my beloved Asics GT 2130 or purchase online, which is likely to be faster for me. Why did I think I needed a change? Hm? Yeah. Change. Now I recall why I am resistant to it.

I can't believe you got 700 miles out of your shoes! I usually start thinking about trading mine in around 250. I do have pronation problems and wear the soles unevenly, but I have also had the insoles break down too quickly in the past. I'd rather swap them out a little early!
I'm an Asics girl, too -- 2110s for about five pairs (didn't like the 2120s so I stockpiled). I am hoping to like the 2130s, but I'm still going to try on everything in the store!
Nothing like bad shoes to ruin a run! I am thinking I may try new shoes, there is a store here that does gait analysis and I think I'm going to try it.
Hope you get your other new shoes soon.
My shoe is dictated more by the size available, than the brand or style. Try finding a women's 13 running shoe! My best bet has been zappos.com

Holy crap I get maybe 300 miles out of mine before I need a new pair.
I have learned from past experience with a pair of god awful Sauconies (NOT GOOD) not to mess with a good thing. I walk in and get the same pair every time. Really. Although my last pair have been so-so. Alas.
