    It's a New Day

I left work around 1 p.m. yesterday to go home and workout and maybe catch a few z's. This was not in the cards. The tree trimmers were at the house, all 8 of them with all sorts of equipment. My MIL and SIL were there, doing a deep cleaning of the house per our request. My SIL has a cleaning business, mostly doing some VA clinics around town, and she does a great job. It just feels quite wrong to have your SIL clean your house, kwim? And, PiePie, my dh's grandfather was there. Oh, and one of our carpenters was there to install various small things, like towel racks, etc., in the bathrooms.

After chatting with everyone, I decided I would run anyway. I knocked out 5.5 miles, which with my 2 mi jaunt in the morning, gives me a total of 7.5 mi for the day. I felt like a new woman. If the choice is between running and a nap, 90% of the time I will choose a run. I know I cannot nap if I have not run. Obsessive / compulsive? Yes, but only about running.

Little Miss J's sleep? Well, thank you for asking. Mucho better. I took the advice of friends and when she woke at 2 a.m. (she fell asleep at 8:10 p.m.), I changed her diaper, avoided snuggles and eye contact, and put her back in her crib. She was not happy, but I was firm. I closed the door, went into the workout room adjacent to her nursery and set my watch for 5 min. Well, what can you do in 5 min increments? Dumbbell workouts! Crazy? Yes. But it worked well. After the first 5 min, she was crying, I went in, did not say anything, patted her back, then left. Same thing after the 2nd 5 min. And the 3rd 5 min. Around the 4th time, she seemed to understand and she started to lay down and would cry pitifully for a bit, then be quiet. At the 5th time, I saw she was laying down and about to fall asleep, so I rubbed her back, then left. So, at 35 min total, 2 sets of arm workouts and 10 min of abs, Miss J was asleep and I was able to return to bed.

I am encouraged that it went well last night. I am also excited to have my arm workout done! So, tonight, if she wakes, I will go in at about 8 min increments or maybe 10 min increments. In the meantime, I will enjoy my day as I am well rested. Oh, and I am scheduled for a cut and color this afternoon.

Workout this morning - 3 mi in 26 min. I am going to run 8 mi tomorrow morning before the family wakes.

Only you would find a way to sneak in a workout while sleep training!

Glad to hear she's getting better - here's to a whole night of sleep tonight!

WHOA. Way to multitask. I am impressed! And so happy for you that the strategy seems to be working.
