Route 66 Half Marathon on Sunday
I am supposed to run the Route 66 Half Marathon on Sunday. It is the 2nd year for the event and my first time running any of it. The event offers a full marathon, half and quarter marathons, marathon relay and kids marathon. The course is substantially similar to the Tulsa Run course, but a bit backward. It is a looped course with a couple of out & back portions, around midtown Tulsa, close to where we live.
The half race starts at 9 a.m. I sent W a meeting notice so that it is on his calendar and he knows he is on point for both kids for about 3 hours on Sunday morning. Hopefully, he will bring them out to cheer me on during the course and see me at the finish line.
I am a wee bit hesitant to run it this weekend. I am not completely prepared. My longest run since the Denver Half Marathon 5 wks ago was the Tulsa Run 15K (3 wks ago). I am also anxious about expectations on a finish time.
As a long time runner, I know that past performance is not indication of current performance. Even setting two PR's within the past five weeks is no guarantee that I will not bonk on this race. Running and racing is such a mind game and I need to have the right frame of mind to compete and race at the best of my abilities.
With that said, I am approaching this race with trepidation. I want to run in it. I want to compete as best I can. And I will do the best that I can on Sunday. That best may not be the same best as it was five weeks ago or three weeks ago, but it will be the best I can do on that day. Isn't that the most I can give?

Well good luck with it and enjoy the trip.
Your best for that day is YOUR BEST FOR THAT DAY. You are running while how many of us are not??!!! Take pride in that, and don't pressure yourself to keep beating it each time. You are wonderful each and every day no matter what. HUGS
