Friday Feedings
Fridays are doughnut day at the office and for Nathan. Typically, I promise him a doughnut on Friday mornings to combat his pestering for one every other day of the week. I can easily say, "No - doughnut day is Friday." And he usually accepts that.
The past few months, I have also been buying 2-3 dozen doughnuts for the office on Fridays, only to arrive at the office and find at least one other box of doughnuts already on the breakroom table with the dregs of doughnuts left. You know which ones I am talking about - the cake doughnut with maple icing and chopped nuts. The one nobody wants until it is 3:30 and someone realizes his blood sugar is dropping and he must eat that last doughnut that has been sitting out for 6 hours.
The reason I buy doughnuts, still, is it is the only way I can guarantee that I will get a doughnut
that I will eat. I am really quite selective. My doughnut of choice is a glazed old fashioned. Love them. It's really the only doughnut I want to eat. Everything else leaves me wishing I had not eaten one.
Usually, doughnuts look better than they actually taste. And Krispy Kreme? Too sweet. Those things make my teeth hurt - and I like sugar. So that means they must be really sweet. We do not have Dunkin Donuts in these parts, but I remember it fondly from New Mexico. We have Daylight Donuts franchises all over the place and they are consistently tasty. The other one I like is a local place - Merritt's. Yummmmmm.

Anything from Merritt's is YUMMMMM - the only place I begin wishing I could enjoy multiple birthday's a year!!!!!
When I used to be at the refinery and we would send someone for doughnuts, a Winchow Donut add would have the saying, "Rainbow Sprinkles!" So I would say that out of being a smart ass and guess what they would bring to me! I really didn't like them as my favorite was old fashion glazed, too. When we first moved to Colorado in 1968 Mom and I managed 2 6-unit apartments for Irene Spelotopolous, A Chinese woman who married a Greek ship owner (who died) and she also owned a Dunkin Donut shop on south Colorado Blvd.
"No - doughnut day is Friday."
It is at our house as well.
That said, my favorite donut is a homemade one.
Remind me of that when I visit, and I'll make them for you.
a simple glazed is my favorite too. But a love a good boston creme once in a while. MPP and Sam both love chocolate frosted. We dont' do it weekly, but it sounds like a great tradition!!!!
I love donuts. I love them all.
But, honestly and truly... I love the maple ones, and apple fritters and well plain old fashion one with just sugar.
Tim Horton's here has made with sour cream...oooooooh my god.
Damn I want a donut now.
I like to go all out and have cream-filled.
Near where my husband grew up there is a donut shop called Curry Donuts. We die laughing every time we drive by.
A nice soft fresh maple bar. On the opposite end, those cream and jelly filled ones just gross me out. As much as I love doughnuts, if that's all that is left, I'll pass.
