To Party Or Not?
Nathan received an invitation to a pool party given by one of his schoolmates. Sounds great, right? Well, the pool party is next Monday from 3:30 until 5:30. Schoolmate lives in midtown, not too far from us. However, pool party is in south south Tulsa, not close to us in any way. In fact, it is a good 30 min drive from us, as Tulsa lacks a north/south expressway.
So, normally, I would bend over backward to do take Nathan to this party. However, this would require me to pack up another set of clothing, swimsuit and towel (granted, not difficult, it's the remembering to do it part that is difficult), leave work at no later than 2:45, pick N up from school, drive out to South Tulsa (or North Dallas), then either stay or leave to pick up Jocelyn (again, 30+ min the other way), then back to pick up Nathan. That is, of course, assuming I can simply drop him off.
Honestly, this party sounds like more work than fun. Tell me what you would do?

Hmmm....
I would go, stay for the party, then pick up miss J on the way home.
It would totally depend on the kid for me. If it was a close friend and my kid would be really upset about not going, then I would do it. If my kid was so-so about going and could be diverted from any dissatisfaction of not going by doing something else that was easier or more enjoyable, then I would skip the party.
Assuming you can easily leave work to do it, I was going to agree with Gretchen. And then I read Joansy's and thought hmmm, I would do that too.....
If you are okay with leaving J til after the party, that's probably the one I'd end up doing.
how's that for hemming and hawing?
Yeah, it would depend on the birthday kid at that point.
Monday? WTH?
Okay, here's the thing. It's not his birthday. This child is on N's t-ball team and in his class, but N does not normally play with him regularly.
Leaving work early is not good this Monday for a variety of reasons. Also, going from one end of town to another and trying to pick up J before daycare closes is going to be tough.
I may try to see if our babysitter can haul him from one end to the other.
I just thought it very strange.
Personally, I'd want to be there for a pool party - I'm way too much of a nervous nellie to leave Monkey Man at one without me there, since he's not a great swimmer.
We've had the cross-town dilemma before, and our rule is those are only on weekends - any weekday parties that involve more than a 15-minute drive are a no-go. Then again, I am a total hardass.
If he was good friends with the kid or otherwise expressed a strong desire to go, I'd probbly try to take off from work early.
If he was ambivalent, I'd skip it.
Totally agree on the ODD TIMING comment - WTF???
OK, didn't mean to mis-spell "probably" but that's kinda cute!!
