    Friday Update

    My mom

Mom had surgery on her neck last week and had four (two sets of two) vertebrae fused together and linked with one rod. She was released within 30 hours and is at home recovering. Apparently, she feels great and the pain, numbness in her fingers, arms, neck and shoulders is now a 1 on a scale of 1-10 (10 being most severe), whereas she has been solidly in the 8, 9, 10 range for several months in in the 5-6 range for over a year.

    The house

We ended up removing all the existing brick and chose new brick (50/20/20/10 of a red brick going to dark red / black brick combo). We are testing the masons on the back side corner to see if we like it and what color to paint the siding and trim.

The drywall / finish guys have been busy and should be done today - we have walls and ceilings. The electricians were there on Wed doing some tie-in work with finished walls.

Next week, we are leaving for vacation (in 1 wk, hurrah) and the intent is to penetrate the house on the main floor and renovate as much of the kitchen as they can while we are gone. They have 8 days, but one of them is a holiday. I now my father-in-law's intent is to minimize the impact to me, so I appreciate that.

We ordered the granite and the slate tile for the kitchen, powder room and entryway. We also have selected the garage doors and the front door.

Things are moving right along, but the yard is a nightmare!

    Running

My friend Gretchen (http://swiperbootsdora.blogspot.com/) completed her first marathon in abysmal conditions - 90's and humid in Iowa. Her perseverence is truly awe-inspiring. We are planning a 1/2 marathon together - either in Denver, Kansas City or somewhere else - in October. Anyone want to join us? In the meantime, I am trying to focus on speed and actually getting outside and running in the summertime heat and humidity.

    Children

    Freaking love my kiddoes.

    Work

You know what? I don't really want to talk about it. It's not bad, but I am very behind (so what the hell am I doing here?). Not much else to say.

    Some cuteness to share:

I'm in for the 1/2! I have plenty of time to get ready... so we need to pick one and plan for it. Personally, I vote KC over Denver, simply b/c I have no idea what the altitude will do to me. BUT, it would be fabulous to see Aimee, so maybe we should be thinking Denver!!

C - you definitely need to plan to come w/ your pom pons! ha ha!!

If you do Denver, I'm in. Running further than a 10K is my goal for the year, and seeing you and Aimee there would give me that much more motivation. Let's talk!
