Double Ovens
I am a posting fiend today, aren't I?
Anyway, the point of this specific post is double ovens. I know, I know. I do not cook very often and when I do, it is stir-fry, steaming, grilling, etc. The oven itself is not used very frequently. However, yesterday I was in charge of bringing 6 dozen dinner rolls to W's cousin's house. That is a lot of rolls. They could all fit into my oven at once, but if I had to cook a turkey or a ham, I would have had to juggle things a bit. So it made me think about a few things.
One of the reasons we want to renovate the house & update things is to start entertaining more and to host family for holidays and other times of the year. Not just W's family, who mostly live here locally, but my family, who do not. Holidays means cooking. Just because I don't cook does not mean that I cannot cook. The few times I have been known to cook, it is not a complete disaster. It is something I have a lot of interest in, given the time and the energy. I have warm and fuzzy memories of my grandmother and my mother's cooking. I would like to have that for my kids as well.
So if we are going to create an upscale kitchen and have it for entertainment purposes, would you like a double oven? I think I would. I could see where it would be quite handy - not just for cooking the turkey, dressing, rolls, casseroles, etc., but also for baking cookies at different temperatures. Imagine the efficiencies!
WWYD? Also, thinking of resale value down the line, would you do it?

Yes, go for the double oven! We don't have ones but our friends who remodeled 2 years ago have them and it is amazing all the things she can have going on at once, at different temperatures. I think the best part is that she does a lot ahead of time because she has a place to warm things back up.
I am in the same boat as you, don't cook much, but think it would be nice to have a double oven. We just finished building our house and this is the route we took. Regular gas range with an oven and a microwave/convection oven. If I do need an extra oven for rolls, cookies, etc., I can use the microwave and I'm not sacrificing cabinet space for the double oven. Before the holidays, I used the microwave/convection oven to bake banana bread and it turned out great.

Go for the double oven, Pat S. & Miyo & Amanda have convection too & it's a time saver. I love my cleanable top & the warming part. Any way you can save space in a kitchen is a good thing.

Go w ith the double oven and plan for the cabinets, at the condo on Maple we put 42" high cabinets in instead of the regular height cabinets everyone else put in. My problem with gas appliances is the film it leaves on you cabinets and the dust that film collects. Don't believe me? The Cambria house was 13 years old and I had to use paint thinnner to get the film off.
Electric stove is slower but sure is easier to clean the kitchen cabinets and walls. But for resale double ovens are great. Our stove has a warmer in the bottom but wished we had the convection oven option.
I'd go for the double oven. Lawd yes, I'd love one.
Definitely, definitely, definitely go with the double ovens! I am so waiting for the day we can swap ours out for a double. We don't use our oven very often, but when we do, it's always crazy trying to get everything done at the same time.
How'd I know G would be on board?
I'd go for the double. Not a full double, but a combo with one smaller oven and one full size. Perhaps it defeats the purpose you are speaking of, but I love the *idea* of using the smaller oven for every day use. It's not as big and doesn't generate as much heat.
My kitchen remodel next year only involves counter tops, a new sink and new appliances. But, you know my hubby, it will snowball from there lmao!
