Today, I'm working on financials for the companies. There are now 14 companies for which my group and I are responsible. Two of them are dormant, but may become active. One of the active companies is quite small and does little transactionally. So that leaves us with 11 active companies. The major one has 230 projects on the books. Some of these are small - like $10,000. Most of these are larger - like, $500,000 to $10,000,000. The same level of detail is required for every project.

Well, I hit my stride and my group is in synch. We are closing the books for February and are reconciling very quickly. This is amazing because the past 5 months has been difficult for us. Our responsibilities increased from having 4 active companies to 11 active companies in a relatively short time. The growth caused problems and attention to detail was missing. But it is back. We did this without adding staff. I think that is a major accomplishment.

So, today, I feel good. I am proud of my group. I am excited about small things, like being able to match the work on hand report to the general ledger.

It's the small things in life, isn't it? And on a Friday to boot.
