Half or Full?
My friend Gretchen and her father are coming to visit in April to run the OKC Memorial Marathon. Now the dilemma for me - that I need to address in short order - is whether to run the full marathon or the half marathon.
The pros / cons of each are equal, really, in strength and reason. It all boils down to what I have the desire and willpower to do. Last year at this time, I was roughly 40% through my training for the Napa Valley Marathon and was feeling great, knocking out the miles, averaging 37-43 mi/wk. Today, I am lucky to hit 30 mi/wk. Ever since the Tulsa Run, I have been taking it easy on the running front. It's been cold here and the ice storm (which I will eventually write about) knocked me out for nearly a week without running. That's a long time for me.
I have 17.5 wks. I will need to make a decision pdq. I think I will try a few longer (meaning over 6 mi at this point) runs this weekend and see how it goes. Then make a decision.
I do know I will be doing one or the other for sure.

I have no advice - you know I am clueless on this front. All I can say is you have been on a roll with your running lately!
I ran quite a bit when I was younger. Never a marathon. Just enough to get me through a soccer game. I have tried several times to become a runner again. I don't think it is going to happen. I just don't enjoy it as much as before. I do know that I cannot even run a block now!
Good luck on the decision, I admire you for tackling either distance. I have learned to think the running is okay but the cold makes it rough, the treadmill is not my friend :)
