    Donuts or Doughnuts?

I have always thought that "donut" was unacceptable and a cutesy way of spelling "doughnut." So I searched American Heritage Dictionary only to find out that "donut" is in fact okay. All along, I have painstakingly changed my initial quick spelling and to include the "ugh" part. Now I find out it is okay! I wonder if it will change my habit now that I am educated?

I am partial to ugh ... but the Canadian OED says that both variations are ok in North America... so there it is.

Wow I didn't realize that either. I have a teacher/friend that had a fit at our last fundraiser because a child spelled it donuts. Me I am the worst speller in the word so it didn't matter to me.

The reason "ugh" is in doughnut- they're fried in grease and not necessary good grease that is changed out every day! Profit margin doesn't include changing the oil everyday. Dad
