Decorating
Traditionally, I pull out all the Christmas decorations, the tree, the ornaments - the Christopher Radko ornaments, the ornaments my parents have given me over the years starting when I was a child, the ornaments we have given Nathan, the collectible train and car ornaments Warren has purchased over the years - the day after Thanksgiving.
This year, I did not do this on Friday. Nathan was bummed. I blamed it on the indecision over getting a real tree or using the artificial one again. He voted for using the artificial one. I promised him we would do it on Saturday.
Saturday, I rose early to run and shower before Nathan's 9 a.m. indoor soccer game. When we came home, I swept and mopped the room where we would place the tree, then we started to bring the decorations from the basement. The same basement that flooded in July.
You guessed it. Most of my ornaments - strike that, ALL of my ornaments with the exception of the Radko's - are ruined. I strung the lights on the tree, but that is all. My heart could not take any more yesterday.
More than this and the impact on my life, I started to think of all that was lost to the residents of New Orleans in Hurricane Katrina. What I have lost is nothing. What they have lost is nearly everything.
We are off to Target and the Hallmark store today. It is time for some new traditions.

Aw, T... I am so sorry. That has to be heart breaking for you. I hope you all can find some nice things and begin some new traditions for the family this year.
I'm so sorry. It must have been heartbreaking to discover that. I hope today is much, much better.
It is not 'nothing'...
That said, I hope today is better!
Oh how sad. That would certainly break my heart, I know that we have things that certainly bring back memories and stories to tell.
Hope you found good stuff!
