DRRRRINNNG
As I sit here, going through spreadsheets, trying to work out the logic and the most efficient and obvious ways to calculate data and import to other forms, I am in hog heaven. I love this stuff. I love analysis. I love digging through numbers and discovering what they have to tell me about and the relationship between this and that - the cause and effect of it.
So tell me, what do you enjoy most about your job? And if you work at home, taking care of your children or other family member, what is your favorite part of that? What mundane, in-the-weeds type activity rings your bell?

For me, it's reading through a court transcript, getting a gut feeling that something isn't right even though it's an obscure point and not part of the normal range of matters, researching the hell out of the issue, and then finding a case or two - sometimes even a case that was issued 100 years or more ago - which confirms that my gut instinct was right and then drafting an argument based upon the above and imagining my opposing counsel's shocked response at having to deal with something novel and unexpected.
I can't wait to hear your other responses.
Oh, Joansy, that is good. Really good. I can see that would be rewarding and fun and hard.
I guess it's two things. First, I adore doing accounts receivable. Billings are my gig. Probably because I really struggled with math through school and somewhere in college it finally clicked. I love crunching those numbers and seeing what I can get. The other is the whole green building thing - trying to problem-solve ideas on how to meet our goals. It's so far out of my element that it really makes my brain stretch.
Great question, T!
I love being creative and I love helping people. :)
I am happiest as a strategic thinker. I relish the long-range "what if we....?" planning process. I enjoy anything that allows me to be creative and "visionary".
"Building the 2008 marketing calendar"....DDDDDRINNNNNNG!!!
I *DISLIKE* anything tactical, like planning meetings or dealing with invoices, etc.
my favorite part of my job? the "sleuthing." i love tracking people down, looking for that one statute that applies to a case, hunting down that elusive test result from a stack of medical records. i love a good mystery that has to be solved by putting the pieces of the puzzle together.
color me erin brockovich--without the ginormous boobs. :)
I enjoy having a new challenge every day and getting to work with teams of people. I love having a problem and being able to pull people together and plan how to fix it. I love figuring out how to get people to do stuff you know they don't want to do but it is what is best for the company.
