The Need for Speed
Running speedwork, that is.
As y'all know, Gretchen, Anne and I are set for the Denver Half Marathon and this is the first week of a 12 week training program. Today was speedwork. Now, to put it all in perspective, baby J has come down with roseola. She had a fever of 103+ deg on Saturday and Sunday with no other apparent symptoms. A rash appears yesterday. Definitely roseola, as confirmed by pediatrician this morning. I have had about 2.5 hr of sleep.
But, today was speed day. I have not had a good run for over a week and despite being tired, I felt the need to get in a good workout. I knew I would not have the desire or energy for it after work. So I dragged myself out of bed, pumped (yes, I am still doing that) and then ran. 3.5 mi in 30 minutes and it felt awesome. The schedule said 5 x 400 m repeats at 5k pace. I did 6x 400m at 5k pace.
I think the endorphins may wear off after another hour or so, but for now, I will enjoy.

I have never felt the endorphin rush. Instead, I will live vicariously through you.
Poor baby J...hope she feels better too and you get some sleep soon.
I do find on my worst, most tired days that a good fast run does help. It's kind of against all that's normal but it works...
You rock. I'm counting the days.
And hugs to J.
Well, I ran but not the marathons. And Oklahoma (where I was born and raised) (and Houston) are easy to run with the flat land.
Now I'm just hiking in the mountains and riding horses.
Hope that Baby J is on the mend!
