Hump Day

I bought Jocelyn her first pair of shoes last night - Robeez. For those who may remember these, they are the best shoes for babies. I dressed her in red today, so she is not wearing her new shoes... We do not want pink & red to clash, now, do we?
IRS
The IRS sucks. But you already knew that, didn't you? We received a letter with the auditors proposed adjustments thus far - to the tune of approximately $300K. No way in hell do we agree with it. I did, however, complete the look-back calculation and have calculated about $17,000 due in interest to the IRS.
On a funny note, I had three phone calls and two text messages from the IRS yesterday. It seems when I wrote the estimated tax payment check for 2006 and our accountant hand delivered it with the extension (in order to have it stamped as received), I had inadvertently written the date as 4/17/2006. This is not acceptable, apparently, so I had to drop by the IRS office this morning and modify the date. The woman was very nice.
Running
My running has been quite strong this week. I took a few days off last week after I had my tooth extracted, but hit it hard last weekend. I ran 7 mi Sunday morning and felt wonderful - even my stance while running was good. I felt like I had a string attached to the top of my head and felt tall. It was really good. I hope everyone can find a way to experience such a feeling.
Adoption
My mom was adopted as a child and has made the decision to try to search for her birth mother. I know what a difficult and well thought out decision this is for her. She has talked about it and debated it for many many years. I want to send her out a big "I Love You!" and wish her luck. I know it is scary, but I think it will be worth it.
Kurt Vonnegut
And in a bit of news that I completely missed, Kurt Vonnegut died April 11. He was a contemporary legend and has influenced so many. If you have never read him, please do.

I wish they could wear Robeez forever. Skechers just aren't as cute!
OMG, the shoes are too cute! I am so sorry I didn't discover them until Ellie was into regular shoes. Good luck with the IRS and congrats on the great running!
love j's shoes! I cannot believe the IRS is asking for 300k....how will you fight that? Do you need to get tax attorneys involved? Best of luck to your mom! I hope her search provides positive closure. I keep meaning to ask how long the bruising stayed from your extraction......has it gone completely now?

I miss Robeez! Those are adorable.
Here's my IRS story - I paid estimated quarterly taxes. I paid them in my name because (1) I earned the money; (2) I was single for 10 months that year so it would have made zero sense to put dh's name on the first 3 returns; and (3) I earned the money. The next year my accountant prepared our statement and did so with dh's name on the first line. We were expecting a $10k return, but instead received a bill for $26k. We received the bill 10 days after I delivered the bambinas and I was expecting the $10k to help with expenses while I recovered from the c-section (no maternity leave for the self employed). Turns out that they didn't apply my quarterly payments to us because I was listed second on the return, rather than first. It took 3 months for the IRS to figure this out and we only got it fixed by filing an amended return with me listed first. Assholes.
Ok, enough of my blabber. Great news on the running and I hope all goes well with your mom.
Joansy - I can totally see the IRS doing that. And requiring an amended return in order to fix it.
The more I stew on this topic, the angrier I get. And the more I will rally around anyone who wants to simplify the tax process. It's absolutely ridiculous.
the shoes are a-freakin-dorable!
And sorry you missed the news about Vonnegut. I was so sad.
and P.S. big PVs to your mom.
Love the shoes! Too cute!
Hugs to your mom.
Robeez are my favorite for babies.
Give me notice (12 weeks or so) and I'll run the 1/2 marathon with you next year.
