    New Traditions

Sometimes - no, strike that, make it most of the time - it is the little things in life that make me grin, feel warm and fuzzy, and guarantee that my day will be great. Today, it was taking Nathan for a doughnut and milk before school.

We had visited with friends last night and had a somewhat late evening, so both N and J slept in this morning, throwing my entire morning routine off a bit. So rather than try to cajole N into changing his clothes, brushing his teeth and putting on his socks and shoes, I openly bribed him. But it was not quite a bribe and more of a fact.

"We will be late for doughnuts if you keep messing about."

It worked like a charm. And I had fun. There is a great family-run bakery on the way to school, so we stopped in, I picked up coffee (leaded, not decaf as I have been drinking for the past year) and a bagel, N had a doughnut (white cake with frosting and sprinkles) and milk. Poor J just had to sit in her carseat and play. N and I chatted about his day at school today (he has music and computers, not Spanish & science), what we are going to do this weekend, spelled words and talked about silly things.

I have had a great day so far. This may become a new Friday tradition for us.

Mmmmmmm, donuts. Funny how the little things can make such a big difference. For us it was wearing PJs this morning.

    I love the little things!

L had speech this afternoon so after we drove over to Sonic (if you don't know... umm, I can't explain) to get drinks. He likes to get a slush and we sit and talk.

It's not bribery, it's positive reinforcement!

At least that's what I tell myself.

I used to meet a friend for doughnuts before school once in awhile, in high school. I still remember how it made my whole day so much better!

When I worked a different schedule every Wednesday was sushi day for me and the girls. California rolls for them and something with fish for daddy. We'd go to the local grocery make a big deal about picking out just the right packages, and go home and eat. A lot of fun!
