    NY Eve

We ended 2006 by going to Kansas City (it's a short 3.5 hr drive from Tulsa) for the KC Chiefs vs Jacksonville Jaguars game. We drove up with D & M. D is our VP-Operations and M & I have been friends via our husbands for 8 years. She is a true southern belle - very gracious and very nice, but also very down to earth and real. Their little girl turns 2 yo today and it was so nice to go out with them. We drove up on Saturday, went out Saturday night to a fabulous dinner, where we were joined by four guys and their significant others from our KC office. The KC office is doing about 65% of our revenue right now on limited staff and are working their tails off. Three of the guys are within six months of having graduated college and are crazy-fun. They had the meal of their lives Sat night. We went to the Capital Grill, where we had the best service I have ever had. It helps that our tab was easily going to exceed $2,000, what with at least 10 bottles of wine, appetizers, steaks, dessert, etc. I had the swordfish. It was good, but not great. W had a filet that was outstanding. Note to self: when eating at a steak restaurant, eat steak.

After dinner, which ended around midnight, we went to a bar. I was ready to go back to the hotel and crash, not to mention pump milk (to be dumped), but oh no. We went to some bar, where I watched people for 1 1/2 hours. M & I were separated, so we did not chat at this point. The bars in KC stay open until 3 a.m. Fortunately, we left at 1:30 a.m. and returned to the hotel. I then spent 20 minutes pumping while W crashed on the bed and snored. Loudly. After pumping, I slept on the small loveseat with my wool coat as a blanket. There was no way I could sleep next to W as he sawed logs.

Sunday morning and I pumped, ran 4 miles and sweated out the badness of the night before, then showered and was ready to go by 9 a.m. The tickets we had included a hospitality tent that is really not a tent, but a tent-like structure next to the stadium building and included breakfast and coffee with the option of Bailey's in the coffee or lots of beer. <>

I had not drank that much the night before, fortunately, but did have two glasses of champagne, so no way was I going to drink any alcohol. Also, I had a head cold. And it was freezing there. Temps dropped from 40 to 20 deg during the game. The game was fun and exciting and put KC in the position to go to the playoffs if Cincinnati and Denver both lost, which seemed at the time to be a wish and a prayer, but it happened. Now, I am a Denver native, so it was hard for me that Denver lost, but if not Denver, I am pleased that KC will go (even though they have no prayer).

Chiefs stadium is fun. Loud. Blue collar. Real. I love it.

After the game, we made it home by 7 p.m., picked up the kids, went home and crashed. I fed Jocelyn and somehow stayed up until 2:30 a.m. watching Top Chef season 1. Anyone else love that show? I am addicted.

Glad that you had a grown weekend and welcomed in the new year. I will admit that I am totally into Top Chef-can't wait for the new one tomorrow night. I DVR it so I can watch it when I get a chance, there are so few shows that we like that could be on when the kids might be in the room.
