This & That
I have been swamped lately, trying to make up some ground for the days I have been here less than 8 hours, so my posts have suffered. The holiday season is enough reason, but we are also quite behind on closing the books for the company. October is closed as of today and we need to work our heinies off to close November by the 1st of January. Then we need to work hard during January to prepare for our fiscal year end audit. Ah. Lovely. The life of accounting & finance people. It's a sprint from one closing to the next right now.
Today, I am sending out holiday cards. Very late. Too late. I hope people understand.
I am finished with shopping, which is a first. Normally, hubby and I are those Christmas Eve shoppers frantically tossing our credit card at the retail clerk helping us, running from shop to shop, searching for the gift that would work, not necessarily the gift the recipient would want. This year, we are done one week earlier than usual. I think we saved money this way. We were more conscious of what we were buying and more careful on our selection. We deliberately scaled back our gifts to others, as well.
I sent out gifts to my parents and brother today, but since they live in Colorado, the overnight delivery was not an option. I just hope they get them before Sunday. If not, I am so so sorry, Mom & Dad. I promise to be more on my game next year.
As part of that, my dad has a holiday time birthday. I have never in my life remembered if it was the 21st or the 22nd. My mother-in-law's is the 20th. So I called Dad this morning at the bright and early hour of 7:30 a.m. to be the first to sign Happy Birthday to him. uh oh Tomorrow's the day. I wrote it down so that I actually get it right next year.
This week, I have a babysitter at the house for the kids. She is a sophomore college student and has been a great help. I really like having someone at my house taking care of the kids rather than lugging them all over town to various in-laws. However, Nathan does want to spend some time with his cousins, so he is with them today.
I took Nathan to the pediatrician on Tuesday to have him look at N's lip. He got hit with a soccer ball in the face about 10 days previous and his lip was still really swollen. He is fine. Just has a big fat lip. While there, I had them weigh and measure N. He weighs 61 lb and is 48 inch tall. Off the charts for height and weight. I voiced my concern that N is too big. Doctor heard my concern, but dismissed it. He is a just a really big kid - tall, dense. And you know, he wasn't that big at birth - he was 17 days early, weighed 6 lb, 10 oz, 19.75 inches long. I feel better.
Jocelyn is doing so well. She started sleeping through the night last week. I feel like a new woman. She sleeps 7-9 hours continuously, wakes up starving, stays awake for about an hour, then crashes just long enough for me to work out for 45 min before she wakes again. I need to establish a better routine for her, but she does seem to be finding her own routine. She is also playful this week, starting to coo and grin and play a lot. She is absolutely adorable.
Unfortunately, I have not followed my training plan for the marathon the past two weeks. I missed my 16 mi long run, but will try my hardest to get it in on Saturday morning (early) this weekend. Otherwise, I am running strong and feel great.
Tomorrow - update on the house!
