Run Tulsa Run
I had debated whether to run the 5k or the 15k race for the Tulsa Run. It's only possible because the organizers bumped back the date of the race two weeks to coincide with Oklahoma's century celebration. So, the race is this Saturday.
Last night, I took Nathan to get his hair cut (which looks great, btw) and the Tulsa Run office was between the hair salon and the deli where we were going to order dinner. So I poked my head in, signed up Nathan for the 2 km fun run (which I think Hubby is going to run, too) and then opted for the 15 km race for myself.
Normally, this is not too big of a deal. I train for this race every year. I have failed to run it once in the 8 years I have lived here and that was the year I had Nathan on the 10th of October and the race was the 31st of October. So I could not be race ready in 3 wks.
But this year, I had Jocelyn 9/6 and here it is 9-10 wks later and I have been running for a good 8-9 wks. However, my longest run has been 6 mi. A fast 6 mi (for me), but only 6 miles, nevertheless.
What have I done? I am confident I can finish, I just do not want to walk any portion of it.
Why this race? It's a huge race in Tulsa. It has a great course that starts downtown, goes through some nice neighborhoods and finishes by the Arkansas River and Veteran's Park. The finish line celebrations include free beer, tons of food, inflatables for the kids, bands. It's great fun. It will just take a strong mind to get me there.
Wish for cool weather and my iPod to work. Have music, can run.
