    Clean Sweep

It started this weekend. The Nesting. I do not believe I experienced this while pregnant with Son, but it may have been in the guise of moving. While Hubby took Son swimming, I stayed home, turned the television to MTV to half heartedly watch Laguna Beach reruns and started cleaning out my closet. We have two closets in the current master bedroom. One is adjacent to Son's closet and will be joined with that closet as part of the new house plans. Prior to Saturday, it was packed to the gills with clothes I have not worn since moving into the house nearly 5 years ago.

Saturday, I removed 1/2 the clothes from hangers, folded them and put them in sacks according to style. I kept about 3 items out of the lot. It took me roughly 2 hours to do this.

Sunday, I woke with a mission. After working out, I showered, then thought briefly of sitting down to read my new book, then opted to work on the closet some more. Again, Hubby took Son swimming, so I was left to my own devices. Four hours later, I had accumulated 6 garbage bags of clothes to donate, one bag of shoes (barely worn) to donate and 6 bags of clothes and crap to toss. I had dusted and swept and washed down the closet. It is cleaner than it has been in 5 years.

My parents arrived yesterday. Despite the fact that it is still hot here and always humid, they heard me when I finally admitted defeat and told them I needed reinforcements to help put the house in order before baby girl arrives. I thought I would go through my closet because nobody else could know what I wanted to keep and what I wanted to toss. The other two closets - the one in Son's room and the one in the nursery - are easy. For Son, we are keeping only clothes sized XS, S or 5. Everything else is going to be donated. In the nursery, if it looks neutral and can be washed, then we will keep. Everything else will be donated.

The cherry on top? Mom asked me if I wanted her to take some lovely stoneware dishes off my hands. I love the dishes, but they are not in keeping with the style of the house nor have they been used in five years. She loves them. She will take them and give them a good home. Sounds like a perfect arrangement to me. Now my kitchen cabinets are being cleaned and ordered as well.

I am a very happy woman. This leaves our decrepit basement. Ah, but that is do-able, isn't it? Surely Hubby can help with that this weekend? I would love to clean that mess and put the bulk of Son's bins of toys down there, buy a nice, fun, bright rug to cover the huge terrazzo star and have it be used as a playroom. That dream is much closer to a reality with my parents' amazing help.

Yea!! I'm so glad they're there to help. Please feel free to send them my way when they're tired of the humidity.

I so need to go through my closet-- I hope I don't have to get pregnant to get the inspiration to do it.

And funny, I'm looking at Terrazo flooring for my kitchen. I suppose shipping yours out is not an option.

    Happy nesting!

I like the terrazo flooring, but not the big star in the middle of it. One of the previous owners was a member of Fraternal Order of Police and we have found various insignia around the house and in the garage.

Wow--I am jealous. You are amazingly productive.

Also, the FOP? That is hilarious.

I love my job, but I refuse to incorporate anything about it into my flooring. Very funny.
