Of Spineless Men
Friday at noon:
I am making a right hand turn on a green light going from a 2 lane road to a 4 lane road, go into the left hand lane, not the right hand lane and swipe another vehicle. I thought the vehicle was making a left hand turn on a green light (no green arrow). We pull over, exchange insurance information, I return to office, email insurance agent. She responds about an hour later thanking me for me prompt response and letting me know that the other driver's wife, who was not in the vehicle with him at the time of the accident, called in the accident.
Wednesday at 10 a.m.:
My insurance company claims adjustor calls to take my statement, we review it, then record it.
Wednesday at 2 p.m.:
Wife of other driver calls me direct and tells me that my insurance company took her husband's statement and told him that our stories do not match. She then states that my insurance company claimed they will try to make her husband responsible for 50% of the damages to my car. She then stated she called to clear up the misunderstanding in our stories. I told her what I told the insurance agent.
wife: "He was not making a left hand turn."
me: "Well, then, he must have ran the red light because I definitely was making a right hand turn on a green light."
wife: "Well, how do you know that? Did you see him?"
me, thinking - well, obviously not
wife: "If you believe that then we have to get our lawyer involved."
me: "Absolutely. Then have him call my attorney because I will not speak to you directly henceforth." (yes, I really used "henceforth")
So. Here's my beef. WTF is wrong with this guy's voice that his wife has to call for him? She was not even in the vehicle. How does she know what happened? And why do people think that bringing up an attorney and legal team is going to make me quiver in my shoes? I mean, seriously, here, what was her point? What is his point? His statement to me at the time, "I saw you, but I didn't think you were going into that lane." Oh, so he did see me but did not even try to stop. Interesting.
My insurance company - St. Paul / Traveler's.
Their insurance company - Geico.
Who would you rather have? I'm going with the big guns.
Not to mention my attorney happens to be our litigator for the business. The man chews nails. He has yet to lose a case for us. He is verygood. Not that I think it will go those lengths, nor do I hope they end up there. I just find the threat of legal action ridiculous given the nature of the accident.
Part of me wonders if they think they can threaten me because I am a woman, I have a very nice European SUV, I am obviously pregnant. Does that make me vulnerable and a good target?
Not today. Not by a spineless man who cannot make his own freaking phone calls and has to have his wife do his dirty work for him.

hmmmm, so his story doesn't match yours. I wonder if his story only doesn't match the one he told his wife?
That kills me too. Good for you for sticking to your guns. And for using the word henceforth.
Methinks he was probably hoping to settle without filing a claim and she is balking. Good for you for not backing down!
