Springtime is upon us. It is the time of rebirth and renewal. It is time for my patience to return. And so it has. Where had it gone in the first place? Ah, yes. I started to sleep in later and later, but did not shorten my morning workouts. My son started dawdling longer and longer. All of a sudden, we were not arriving at school until after 8 a.m. and I was not arriving at the office until 8:15. Too late.

Last night, I set my running watch, which doubles as an alarm clock for me, for 5 a.m., per usual. This morning, I did not hit the snooze. I was up and running on the treadmill by 5:10, ran my 6 mi, did weights, lunges, then upstairs to make breakfast for the boy and put his lunch in his backpack, set out the various food items for my breakfast and lunch, then upstairs to shower. We were out the door 30 min ahead of yesterday's time table. Whew! Need to keep it up.

Son is such a dawdler, playing eenie meenie miney moe to decide what toothbrush to use while using the toothbrushes like drumsticks and hitting everything possible in his bathroom. He usually decides he has to use the toilet as I am about to walk out the door. It's maddening, but also part of being a parent to a very funny little boy. If I can build in the buffer time, I get to enjoy his personality rather than using my sergeant voice to demand he stop playing around. Life is much more fun.

So here's to springtime and an earlier morning wake up call.

I have a dawdler too. The patience vs. being amused factor is weighed my my house every single morning.
